librem 5 Power adapter for traveling? Need Voltage converter?

Lost the original small block charger that came with the phone years ago. Read on the forums at the time of a compatible charger which I got and have been using. I don’t have it in front of me but its a rectangle block with one USB port and two USB C ports, the one for laptops being compatible with the librem 5. If I got a universal C convert plug for Netherlands would I need a voltage converter for it?

This official purism charger, looks very nice and is only $40. Problem is the shipping cost more than the charger making it $90. Is that b/c of some battery regulation or something? That charger wouldn’t need a voltage converter right?

If I need an adapter and voltage converter for the plug I have now then maybe its worth it to get the nice purism charger. Thanks!

Every spec compliant >=15W USB-C power brick should work.

I remember someone here mentioning that shipping costs for some items may be less than what is auto-calculated on the website, so you could email support@puri.sm to find out if the actual shipping cost is less. @JCS may be able to find out.

You can see in the image on the Purism shoop page that input is AC120- 240V~50/60Hz, so no transformer is required. (This is true of probably all modern computers’ and phones’ chargers, as well as many other electronic devices.)

However, the BM818 modem in your Librem 5 is region-specific and the LTE bands generally don’t align well with other regions. So, to use the phone in Europe, you would likely need to buy the BM818-E1 modem and swap out the one in your phone if you’re currently using the North America (-A1) or Asia/Oceania (-T1) variant. Remember it’s extremely easy to break the modem connector ribbons during the removal and reattachment, which would ruin the modem.

See the modem specs here: Will my existing SIM card work? What countries and networks will be supported? – Purism

Yes, a lot of equipment is universal voltage these days. You would examine the specifications on the power adapter.

However you also need to consider the actual plug on the AC side.
