Librem 5 SparkLAN WiFi Modules For Sale in Europe

I am making this post on behalf on @nils:librem.one in the Purism community Matrix channels.

They said

Just a brief reminder that I have a few Sparklan WiFi modules which I ordered directly from Purism, to re-sell and ship within Europe. It’s cheaper than ordering from the USA.

I am re-selling without profit.

If you are interested, you should hop into the Purism Librem 5 community Matrix channel here:

and then ping @nils:librem.one

The WNFB-266AXI(BT) seems to be available from European shops too, around 40€+shipping. Price is more than at Purism shop but no import tax and you may get lucky with the shipping costs, depending where you live and what shop you use. That being said, I hope Nils gets to sell those.

Have you ordered one from a European shop? Most of them say they’ve sold out. Others only supply to businesses. If you know, could you link to a seller that has them on stock and ships to non-businesses?

@nils:librem.one just told me he sold the last of his batch 2 months ago, so unfortunately, he’s out of stock.

Is there any interest from Librem 5 owners in Europe that would also like to replace their Redpine with a SparkLAN? We could batch our orders together, like Nils did, and save on shipping.

Nils was able to sell them €40 apiece excluding shipping. So that would save everyone $65 shipping + VAT and DHL handling.

No, and unfortunately I can’t remember which sites I checked back then. In theory, those sites that sell this kind of modems in general might be able to order one for you - you could ask them if that’s possible and how much it would cost.

How the SparkLAN Wifi module identifies itself in /var/log/syslog. I moved to a new L5 and do not see “redpine” anymore in the log.

Well, as there’s no syslog, that might be difficult to find there. See: How to get Lirem 5 kernel log in /var/log/syslog in addition to systemd journal?
I quess it’s journalctl | grep BCM43752

I’ve checked maybe half a dozen sites. They all report no stock with lead times of several months. Plus they only do B2B, not B2C. Nils was able to procure a couple from https://www.m2mgermany.de/ last year because he has a registered business, for example.

I (always) have forwarding to syslogd enabled and now with the pattern to grep for, I can see the messages:

# gzip -dc /var/log/syslog.2.gz | grep BCM43752

I just checked and did no find a seller in Europe. I would be interested to get a Sparklan module to Germany. The shop m2mgermany.de seems to be under construction.
