Librem Mini v1 EC & coreboot fan speed hacking

Hi, I’m tinkering with coreboot development and am currently focused on the EC side of things, specifically power & fan speed control.

I read in a purism blog post, that fan speed control was an issue during development, but was later resolved.

I looked at the coreboot commits vor Librem Mini v1, but unfortunately couldn’t find, where and how the issue was resolved

Does someone know, how the no-fan issue was resolved? Maybe @MrChromebox has some insights

Ah, yeah, well, there wasn’t much hacking involved… the MiniV1 (and V2 for that matter) still uses a proprietary EC firmware. With the initial version there was an issue that the fan control was, for some reason, disabled once Coreboot was used (it worked with the also proprietary AMI BIOS). Later we received another version of the EC firmware which had fan control also with Coreboot. That’s all.

Cheers

Hi @nicole.faerber , thanks alot for the information :slightly_smiling_face:

I would be very grateful if you could share the EC firmware binaries. :tada:

I want to hack around the EC, understand it better and (maybe) try my luck at modifying it, but i fear risking desoldering the EC flash before beeing able to have a golden backup copy, in case i mess something up while desoldering. I can recover from a broken flash chip by soldering an empty spare, but if i destroy the firmware while desoldering, then i would be screwed

Thanks alot,
viliam

Hi, sorry to bother you, but any chance on making the EC firmware binaries available?
You would help me out alot in becoming a better coreboot dev and it would be truly appreciated :hugs: :slightly_smiling_face:
