I dropped my L5 several times. Lately the screen seems loose as if I’m pressing against something spongey, but only if I’m looking up at the ceiling on my back holding the device - such that gravity pulls the screen down and away. It causes a ton of spurious taps to register on the onscreen keyboard and makes it hard to type. Other times if I look down at the device from above, such as standing or sitting instead of lying down, it’s totally fine. One of the most frustrating aspects of this is when it toggles the onscreen keyboard in the middle of typing, and changes a letter such as ‘i’ to have the F5 key in place of it. Then when I’m trying to write this post for example, the whole page refreshes. If I have a spare L5 thats not being used, can I take off its screen and affix it to this one instead of the problem screen??..
You can use the spare Librem 5 and send the other one in to Purism for repair, or acquire a screen replacement from the shop and manually perform the repairs instead:
I would just get some glue or rtv and glue it back on
Oh. That the Finger position did not match the OSK Position sounds bad! It may be better if the Screen is not slightly above/under a not 90° Angle sounds really bad to me. Your Frame may be wrong? So its hard to suggest that the screen and the Finger detection below will work. But try and test it if you hold/push/force the screen down.
If the frame is not right, a new screen will not fit too. So it may be better to ask Purism if they check and or repair. Or just change the screen and if its not well, send it to purism.
I think it may be more easy to just buy a new one and use this phone for testing and compilation through ssh ![]()
First try gopher tape… an if its creepy send it in or buy a new one.
I would either send it back, replace the screen, or just glue it back in yourself. Support@puri.sm might have some ideas
They gave me the good idea that double sided tape would also work in place of the glue, but I only skimmed the email and my main takeaway was that the easiest solution is likely at at-home fix.
That said, I just took it apart and then realized that I don’t even really need to take it apart. It just needs more glue, the glue on the screen must be dead. Giving the screen falling out, I could essentially add the tape or glue or whatever I go with to the screen without really doing much with the reverse side of the device.
Edit: Some carefully placed tape seemed to resolve my issues. I’m writing from the device with bad screen – having added some tape (and closed it up) the screen doesn’t seem to be flipping out, even when writing with the device facing downward!
