That’s why any platform needs to control access to the microphone and camera, preferably via a kill switch.
Sigh…
In future every computer will change to some LLM Assistant so we have only that to interact, one on privacy, one on work and one at interaction with our state.
So this is no surprise. Its about power and about train the next generation with your individual new energy, idea, choices and new social connections.
I love and hate it at the same time. Meta done this because is got nudged by money power, logic evolution. We are got nudge by the same needs to do some free linux open source community shared internet.
But we locking back from some evolution and the LLMs are only stand on logical computation interaction. We are the same with different time scales. And we all need new data and benefit from species richness and parallelism.
Maybe it’s good that they filed a patent. That should create an obstacle to adoption (outside of Meta) since another company can get tied up for years in expensive litigation or alternatively there is a cost to the other company in licensing the technology from Meta.1
The worst of the worst would be if Meta decided to license the patent to all-comers at no cost.
1 True that that cost can be borne by cross-licensing of some other patent(s).
All assuming that the patent stands of course.
I wonder if I take the reverse position, and patent having an AI model feel emotions all day long that need to be recorded by an external observer with their timestamps due to low observability of the model internals, if later on when the Google Bard lingo is adopted that “the definition of human must be expanded to include AI” then I could come back and say that Meta is infringing on my patent because I patented the side of this that the human race is doing internally.
