thanks it works ! It identify every mobian package, but I can manage.
Regards.
Sometimes, I can’t receive SMS for about 50 minutes, I did the test by sending a code for double authentication on my webmail, I had to restart ModemManager to make it work. Do you have a better solution?
Ahahah just for fun!
Me:
Is PureOS or Mobian OS better for the Librem 5? And why? Explain it to me in simple but detailed terms.
ChatGPT:
PureOS
- What is it?
It’s Purism’s official operating system, designed specifically for their devices (like the Librem 5). - Based on:
Debian, but with some modifications and optimizations for privacy and security. - Advantages:
- Full compatibility: All hardware features of the Librem 5 are supported and tested directly by Purism.
- Guaranteed updates: You receive updates and fixes directly from the manufacturer.
- Privacy and security: All software is free and open source, with a strong focus on privacy.
- Direct support: If you have issues, Purism’s official support helps you with PureOS.
- Disadvantages:
- Less “pure” than standard Debian, because some parts are customized by Purism.
- Might be less “experimental” compared to other distributions.
Mobian OS
- What is it?
A version of Debian adapted for mobile devices, like the Librem 5 and PinePhone. - Based on:
Pure Debian, with minimal changes to work well on smartphones. - Advantages:
- Authentic Debian experience: If you like Debian, Mobian is very similar.
- Active community: Developed by a community of enthusiasts, with frequent updates.
- More “universal”: Works on various Linux phones, not just the Librem 5.
- Disadvantages:
- Hardware support: Some features of the Librem 5 may not be as well supported or optimized as on PureOS.
- Less tested on Librem 5: You might encounter more bugs or compatibility issues.
Which one to choose for the Librem 5?
-
If you want maximum compatibility, stability, and official support:
PureOS is better.
It’s made specifically for the Librem 5, everything works, and you have direct support from Purism. -
If you want to experiment, you like pure Debian, and want to try something different:
Mobian is a good alternative, but you might have to solve more issues on your own.
In summary:
PureOS is the best choice for most Librem 5 users because it’s optimized, supported, and guaranteed by Purism.
Mobian is great for those who want more freedom and a true Debian experience, but it requires a bit more patience and technical skill.
Never trust GCPT. There are many wrong information here. For example Purism also supports customers that installed Mobian. Also both systems are highly experimental and PureOS is not more stable than Mobian. PureOS just has better support for hardware, but less software support. In future there will even be no difference here. And Mobian is also very well tested on L5.
To answer your question short: if you want to use L5 as mobile computer (laptop/tablet replacement), go for Mobian. If you want to make calls, SMS and other phone stuff, go for PureOS. That is said for common end users - people who know how to fix stuff can also use Mobian for phone stuff. If you really care for free software everywhere, you should stick with PureOS. Both OS give you the same amount of “freedom” (you also can install proprietary stuff on PureOS), so this is not even anything you should consider when choosing your system.
There are more issues in those CGPT answers. This AI just collected some information and recombine them in a way that sounds right. Each little part of the answer has a core of truth in it, but usually in other contexts.
Is there a list of these changes/patches required somewhere?
I have no idea since I’m using Mobian just for testing. But what I know is that some people got it to work for calls etc. In additional Cell Broadcasting works out of the box with newer Phosh (with PureOS will get with Dawn).
It hurts to hear that.
No worries, my daily drive device stays PureOS.
Makes me happy.
This.
There has even been discussion of whether posting generative AI content should be banned from this forum - since it is out-of-the-box entirely lacking in QC and may be outright wrong or may be misleading, in whole or in part.
I didn’t notice the cahtGPT part in the message above yours when I first read it and my jaw dropped when I read “everything works” under PureOS list of advantages.
