Mobile phone line and mobile internet unstable! Who is the culprit?

With huge difficult I’m trying to move to Librem 5 as pure daily driver and iphone, instead, as impure device! So I moved my SIM card to L5 and use it also as hotspot for iphone to use socials and other proprietary apps but sometimes L5 loose mobile data connection and/or mobile phone line. I tried different procedures: from off->on screen buttons to lateral hotkey till reboot! Please I’d like to know how to find the culprit:

  1. is my crimson alpha?
  2. is my modem?
  3. is my mobile Company?
  4. something else?
    Thank you :folded_hands:

If you are on AT&T, you need to register your device using your online AT&T account or they’ll keep dropping you.

Thank you for your suggestion, Lwriemen!!
I’m italian so I’m using italian mobile Company called Iliad!

Does Iliad have a online settings portal?

I’m checking it, thank you! Anyway this morning I had long call with colleague, about half an hour and I had only 1 call drop! So I don’t think it’s mobile Company side! Moreover I tried speaker voice and it doesn’t work! So probably it’s missing software development/improvement! Hope my feedback can help someone else with same issue!

What about your mobile data? Do you have that on all the time? For some reason VoLTE requires data to be on

Mobile data seem working good. Sometimes Librem 5 switches between 4G and 3G (one time I had 2G for 1-2 minutes) but generally it’s working good (I’m also using proton VPN)

Anyway randomly it goes out (no internet and/or no phone line). Maybe isn’t it able to resume from blank screen when I take it after a while? I don’t know :man_shrugging:
And I’ve to switch off and on HKS or reboot

You might want to check Iliad’s coverage and mobile towers in this map:

Zoom way, way down until you see tower locations.

I think Iliad also has a roaming agreement with TIM, doesn’t it?

Perhaps could be the following issue?

I’m in Havanna, Cuba, all December and do use my L5 with a cuban SIM card of the local provider ETECSA. Mobile data works reasonable well.

Most annoying thing is to have SSH into the L5 from my laptop to avoid suspend after the configured time of 2 minutes. Why it can’t see that hotspot is active on Wifi and does not go to suspend?

Thanks

I once was experiencing this but the problem went away. Then it came back a few months ago. The udev hack described in this thread worked for me. There is a slight battery life penalty but not too bad.
