Two things:
First would the BM818 maker be open to a custom firmware that under-clocks the BM818 perhaps down to ~100mhz as was done by the Pinephone hack project or options for several steps over AT command. Maybe even several test firmwares for use to pass out as a beta test to try to get a Librem that doesn’t turn red hot and corresponding wasted battery power when we are making a phone call.
After all of these years I am not sure if we will ever come across all of the tricks used to get all-day usage form even the cheapest android/apple or even desire to have the app freezing with exceptions as they have in Android, even so we still see people using firefox for 5-6 hours a day on the cheapest mobile phones.

Not only that, but capabilities to Chatty to chat with Modem, the devs also said that found black code into de modem which removed.

Shame to FSF too because it is not take L5 to Freedom the bootloader but Lineage devices.

The declared purpose of Libre Phone project by the FSF is to develop tools and technics necessary for reverse-engineering blobs. If they only deblob specific devices, they failed. It seems reasonable that they target Android because they want a wider community of reverse-engineers to use their tools and technics when they become ready.
On the other hand… Android is probably not intended for computing in general sense. It is a market place customized to an individual. People buy those devices to “invite” services. Those services open up “shops” in the form of apps in the user’s estate. Of course, the users and the services may not fully trust each other. To simplify “opening up of shops” by ensuring a level of trust, a third party vouches that the market place is legit. On Android, that authority is Google.
In such relations, the attempts to liberate the underlying hardware may seem irrelevant.
But there are still many more people with access to Android devices. Old devices become abandoned and not suitable as such marketplaces anymore. Maybe, there is still an opportunity with those?
