Modem indicator disappeared

I’ve had two times the case that the modem indicator in the top status line went away and also in system’s Settings there was no entry Mobile anymore. I found no other way than doing a power off reset to make calls possible again. A plain reboot, i.e. without power-cycle, made the modem appear again, but calls were not working.

What could be the reason?
For what to look in /var/log/syslog?
What could be done without reboot?

This seems to be pretty common (maybe a couple of times per week) on Pinephone/Mobian/Phosh. A phone restart fixes it for me. How about you on the L5?

Did the kill switch achieve anything?

HKS was my first guess. I toggled it a few times, no reaction.

Speaking of indicators, I think it would be cool to have a full set of US Robotics style indicator lights on a status bar:

HS AA CD OH RD SD TR MR RS CS SYN ARQ/FAX

(Oh and maybe a STU-3 style secure = on/off indicator.)

It’s a known issue. It’s here on the issue tracker:

There is a script on there that is mentioned on it to restore the modem. However, I have not tried it myself.

I’ve tested the script. It does reset the modem and the symbols about cell network and 4G appear again in the status bar, but the modem remains unusable for calls, the app is just hanging.
