No Ethernet in Librem 15?

Do I get this right, the Librem 15 comes with no Ethernet card and no RJ45 port?

What triggered this change in design (I am quite sure that by the time I ordered my Librem 15, it still had an Ethernet port)?

And the Librem 13 still has an Ethernet card? Given the smaller dimensions of the Librem 13 respect to the Librem 15, I would understand if it were the other way round…

I am starting to wonder what more design changes regarding the specifications I’ll discover once I get the Librem Purism (this is the configuration I ordered:

  • Memory: 16GB (2x8GB) +$250
  • Storage: 500GB SSD +$275
  • M.2 (NGFF) SATA III SSD: None
  • Hardware Kill Switches: Yes +$89
  • Drive Bay: 1TB HD +$75
  • Screen: Full HD (1920x1080)
  • Keyboard: English (US)
  • AC Adapter Power Plug: EU
    )

It appears that the change was announced in an update on April 15, 2015

CHANGES TO THE REVISION CONFIGURATIONS

Some of the changes to the Librem 15 rev1 and Librem 15 rev2 configurations have directly affected the CPU, battery life, RAM, optical drive, and some hardware choices.

CASE

Librem 15 rev1 will support an optical drive and RJ-45, as represented by our images of the existing case. Librem 15 rev2 will be thinner, removing the optical drive and RJ-45.

(It appears that when rev2 was announced on Feb 24 2015, it still had RJ-45: https://www.crowdsupply.com/purism/librem-15/updates/1509)

I’m using a cheap RJ45 dongle that plugs into the USB port, voila - 1 Gbps

Also most of my work places have wifi, so it’s not a big problem to me. Of course YMMV.

cheers, HS
