I have already explained what the problem is. But Iâm just a lowly consumer and because I donât want to learn Linux and other -stuff- seems to mean I donât know anything about the L5 and Linux.
Do you know what the âPureOS Storeâ link is to the âPureOS Storeâ?
It will use the data in the hamburger drop down menu on the top right of the PureOS Store icon link I believe.
Under software repositories*
you may need to select an option in preferences called âshow incompatible applicationsâ if it is somehow filteriing out applications you should be seeing.
Yes. The wrench/hamburger/menu link shows âSoftware Repositoriesâ but that just repeats the spinning circle.
But do you know what the link is like https:// yadda yaddaâŚ
The browser, (pick one) is where we put software.pureos.
What happens, is when we choose a browser and goto software.pureos. we get a page with a redirect (thatâs what it is doing) to Software categories - PureOS Software.
The desktop none browser(?) link goes to a different (no redirect).
The whole problem is the two versions of the front landing page. I can use a browser and get to the correct site (software.pureos.net) where we are redirected to the âCategoriesâ page. From there on my Z400, I can do what we should be able to do.
On the L5, well, the way the PureOS Store is used is broken.
BTW, on the L5, using the software.pureos. net, I can see the correct pages, but canât install anything.
I believe it is software.pureos.net but I am not sure the phone gives the same permission for the web browser to download items from the website that it grants to the appstore, I am not sure how that works.
Is that link the one you think is for the desktop icon âPureOS Storeâ or for using a browser or both?
I did a step x step and I can repeat the results. Iâm hoping someone will follow the step x step and either confirm the desktop link is NOT being caught by a redirect and goes to old site while using a browser goes to the redirect sending us to the correct landing page.
BTW if using a browser and viewing a few sub-dirâs and clicking Back (<) button opens the old page.
I wish that I had the requisite skills to assist you with your project, I will make a mental not to give it a try, but JCS and Frankly both know more than I do, perhaps they could be persuaded to use one of their terminal commands to record the redirects. You know, it occurs to me there maybe a record of it in the internet cookie records if you know how to read them.
Doesnât need to go that far. Whom ever manages, the web site; they that doles out Mod badges were to read those steps they could, if they are good, would correct the errors and the PureOS Store desktop icon would link to the proper place. Itâs really too easy to fix. But Puri is all seeing, all knowing and to tell them they are wrong is, well, sacrilegious - IMO.
I seem to have hit a top secret nerve ending.
Oh well. Itâs their machine. Naturally, they may do as they want. I only tried to help - for selfish reasons of course. Maybe, itâs a better idea to leave it as it is.
According to my Pi-hole log (a home network tracker-blocking application, which allows or blocks outgoing connections according to rules set by the user), when I trigger updates from the PureOS Software app/store or from the terminal, it connects to:
repo.pureos.net
But I donât think that will help you much. Take a look at it in your browser. Note that the index there pertains to desktop packages and phone packages, as well as all the amber, byzantium, crimson, etc. version releases.
I think software.pureos.net is the place to download from if youâre downloading from a website and not from an app.
But what about when you try to use the other functionality of the PureOS Store application i.e. listing available packages in various categories? What domains does PiHole show?
Doing updates from the PureOS Store application does mostly work for me (occasionally seems to go off into la-la land). However I usually do updates via sudo apt ...
I did this. A trip down memory lane with WSFTP. I had forgotten what they looked like But youâre right. Maybe helpful if I lose the battle not to fall in to Linux command methods. I bookmarked it and repo for easy reference.
Yes one can click Install from there as well, but already know that.there. I will later on , look up how to make a icon shortcut on desktop. And delete the PureOS Store icon.
Would that âappâ be the PureOS Store icon?
While replying, I wanted to look up something in Forums so I just one tab and logged in a again. I typoed the URL, no âsâ, and got a blank black screen so I added the âsâ and got âŚ
That doesnât work. I showed why.
Iâll go with the one that works.
Iâm here today to find out how to remove the old PureOS Store icon and replace or create a desktop shortcut to new browser dependent one. Iâm sure Iâll find a how-to as I seem to remember reading about creating desktop shortcuts.
I donât like using a browser to get there - but itâs the only alternative there is.
To delete any web applications youâve created:
Launch Web > Preferences âhamburger menuâ dropdown > Open Application Manager > Delete button.
Itâs a good idea to perform sudo apt update (and sudo apt upgrade if there are any waiting updates) before installing a new application. (Itâs possible your website method will do that automatically, but Iâm not sure.)
The only âWebâ on this L5 is the browser called Web. In that Preferences > there is no âOpen Application Managerâ
Not my âmethodâ. Ya canât pin that one on me
The browser method is one that works. Others have pointed out that the link on L5 desktop to PureOS Store does not work for them either.
I wonder why Puri is ignoring it doesnât work right:thinking:
SideNote: (maybe you know who might believe me and pass it on.)
I was just browsing the working store and after about 30 minutes, noticed the icon for Pure OS Store (app?) is missing the icon on the working site.
