"Oops something went wrong. Please contact your software vendor"

  1. List item Device was plugged in all night.

  2. List item Logged in.
List item There was a message to update or upgrade and it said restart required. I did the update and got the error (see title). The error doesn’t say what “software” so finding the vendor is…

  3. List item It showed there was a Chat(ty?) message that was the usual error. I went to “Chat” and went to Settings, clicked Network and got another error with additional to-do “NetworkManager needs to be running.” with a lot spaces between each word.

  4. Closed Chat and opened Settings. That took 11 seconds to the debian-style blue background, and 23 seconds later Settings opened > "Network and get another error, similar to the ones above “Oops something went wrong” - duh!

  5. List item I closed that and clicked Mobile and that error say "No WWAN adapter Found … make sure you have a Wireless Wan/Cellular device.:
I thought L5 is suppose to be a cellular device!

I opened Advanced Network, that took a long time (11 seconds) showing off the spinner. Then the Deb-blue screen for 8 seconds and later (21 seconds) “Network Connections” opened with nothing listed. Clicking add “+” brings up a “Choose a Connection Type” and the choice of choices is way above my pay scale. No idea what I should choose - if anything.
I know how long each took by repeating the process and timing it.

Advanced Network was of no help.

Going to the ‘notification’ screen, and tapping WiFi or mobile off does nothing. They are locked on even though they both show as being On, I can’t tap either one Off and On. All other Off/On buttons work, just not the needed ones.

Th th th that’s all folks

I’ve seen similar issues. I hate to say it, but probably rebooting (maybe even twice) might fix this.

Thanks for your response. However, rebooting doesn’t do anything except reboot.

It’s the kind of thing I suspect, just thinking about it now, that is similar to a bad sector.

I’m going to flash it again - soon. Been too busy with other hardware.

Thanks again,

OK, but it is referring specifically to the cellular modem card within the Librem 5. If you use the kill switch to turn off the cellular modem then you will get that error. If, for some reason, it is not detected correctly at boot time or maybe the card itself doesn’t come up correctly then you will get that error.

Sometimes there is merit in booting with the cellular modem intentionally switched off (via kill switch), letting the boot run to completion, and then switching on the cellular modem. If nothing else, that allows you to view events in the system journal that relate specifically to the switching on and detection of the cellular modem.

In a perfect world on paper maybe. Kill switch tried. No difference.
Booted with kill switch On.
Booted with kill switch Off
Pulled battery out, waited 30 secs.

The unacceptable wait times for Deb screen to open/ and move on, and finally arriving at Settings huge improvements.,

THEN, and I should have listened to my instincts, I allowed a update to OS to scramble everything (again) and guess what:

  1. List item there is no WiFi icon, switch is on or off - doesn’t matter.
Tap Settings and the $%#@^& DOWNdate (sure as isn’t UPdate) makes everything tapped to take longer than a political promise. Geeze - ,can this lemonmade get any worse. Sure enough, it can.

  2. List item The -thing- has a ! on 4 bars for mobile.

  3. List item Then the thing hangs. No Back, no Swipe, tap does nothing except irk my ire. Switch on/off does nothing. A real piece of work this is.

Last time I’ll let a looks-good-on-paper crash-date or crash-grade blow out 5 hours of work.

The cannot be blamed on end user - me. It’s the over-tweaked patches, and this mass of old bits of parts slammed together.

No one has been able to prove me wrong.

I think the best thing for you would be to use your RMA and send it back for repair. Then we would all find out what’s really wrong with your phone, and plus it would stop driving you crazy

I believe that (“!”) means that: cellular is connected (and connection is strong) but data has been turned off.

I think there’s a bug that sometimes data just gets turned off - but you can manually turn it back on using the GUI Settings app.

With my phone it takes many minutes after boot (with the cellular modem switched on at boot time) before cellular settles down to “4G and data on”. Before that it is in various states including “4G and data off”. (In my case I think this is because the 3G network is still in the process of being shutdown and because my provider has automatic roaming arrangements and because my provider has turned 3G off already but the destination provider for roaming has not turned 3G off yet - but that’s just a theory.)

I agree. But I don’t like sending it back to receive a unknown amount of costs to repair it, plus shipping, & DHL’s wild fees.

Repair must mean hardware and if it is, that’ll be a bigger cost.
Too, I won’t know when it might ever come back if I could afford the costs.
If it’s not hardware, it must software and that would be in the flash image that could be fixed here given I have the right stepxstep.

What ever makes you think I’m crazy

Yes there are 2 or 1 bugs for (“!”) one from QMI and NetworkManager both addresed to be fixed in Gnu Crimson.

Does that infer that bug/s won’t be fixed in Byzantium?

Yes it can be fixed on Byzantium, however Byzantium is old and the testing for (“!”) bug will via Crimson thats why.

It suggests that it won’t be fixed in byzantium - I would imagine that Purism would only expend extra effort to fix a bug on byzantium if it were a serious problem e.g. a showstopper affecting lots of customers. However I haven’t seen any official policy statement on this from Purism. Hopefully, sooner rather than later, crimson is officially released and we can all reflash, and then see how we go.

Today I noticed that my L5 was in ‘half hang’ mode and very hot. After a reboot (forgot if I did it with power button or via menu, but I think power button) the WiFi (module) was not detected in the Settings. I rebooted a few times. Also I did a few times a shut down. All via the menu. But WiFi did not come back. Then I powered off the L5 via the menu and let it cool down for a while. When I started it again, when the L5 felt cooler, WiFi was there again. Could temperature influence the availability of the WiFi module?

Possibly, but I have not had it happen yet. Even under borderline overheat, my Librem 5 USA reliably indicates the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module status.
