Physically it has eight. I don’t know the maximum number of electrical differences ever achieved by a manufacturer or device failure, but in principle it could be 8.

I got stucked there too for a moment. But i forget to insert the battery after the flash script was complete.
I like to exclude battery first and attach the L5 before in the flash state first (Vol Down, with attatched USB-c to USB-A OR USB-C.) And have the udev rules for Librem5 already in place on your Linux/Windows PC with its flashing script.
Then i just have to start and add the battery. And it will work.
