Phones Selling Location Data from "Trusted" Apps

Apps on Android and iPhones like GasBuddy and The Weather Channel have been found to sell location data to advertisers and similar companies. I’m sure this isn’t a big surprise, but the number of devices being tracked is astounding: “Several of the businesses whose practices were analyzed by the Times claim to track up to 200 million mobile devices in the US.”

For context, if each person has one device, that’s 87% of the adult population! I’m sure that’s not the case (we all have several devices that can do location tracking), but still that’s quite astounding.

Things like this really make me want to move to Librem 5 sooner than my budget is allowing me to.
