Mail it to me if you don’t want it. I’ll pay for shipping.

There are a million uses for computers that don’t include “landfill”.

Also curious what is the reason to be done with your tablet. Like a full linux phone where I have top to bottom control I love having a linux tablet. I am willing to take big hits to speed and even some beyond-basic function to have full root control and not need to mess with the libhybris crap.

Why throw trash in the trash?

  1. Product. Trash. Librem 11 is incapable of the smallest task: it cannot even download & install an application. I was able to install 1 app on Nov 1 but never again since.
  2. Support. Trash. Purism support Is incapable of the smallest task: I have 4 seperate tickets open for 4-6 weeks for 4 seperate symptoms. For 1 the fixes they have suggested have done nothing. For 3 they have not responded to my requests other than “we’ll look into it”
  3. Returns. Trash. Purism return policy is a joke. Only a partial refund + must pay for shipping.

I did retreive this trash out of the trash & now it is junk in my junk drawer.

Wondering if its possible to erase all purism garbage off the phone & reuse the hardware as platform for some software that is actually useful.

Appreciate any ideas!

Is there another os available like mobian or arch?

It is not listed on the mobian site but I recall pureOS is Debian based so you could for example rip out the Gnome and switch to phosh, plasma, or another window manager. Do thisall over SSH and inhibit the GUI from fully loading, it will probably work to not log in. This is where we get back to the 90’s .conf file tweaking and general linuxy playing around but at least it is possible on a device you have full control over, at the ned of the day this is just normal Linux probably running apt, wayland, and systemd it is the same as multitudes of users over 35 years. Not having this device I cant give explicit instructions but I am sure there are people here who have done hacks like this.
What issues are bothering you?

Sorry you are having trouble with it. Just out of curiosity have you tried restoring it to factory settings? ‘‘sudo apt upgrade’’ in terminal? Just checking I am sure you have.

I have bad experiences with PureOS Store and GNOME Software, especially with older versions like shipped with PureOS currently. I suffered very often from this bug. I always use apt on the command line to install applications. Did you try installing via the PureOS Store of via apt? If you are unfamiliar with installing via apt let us know which application you would like to install. We can provide the required commands.

I have a Librem 11 and I installed KDE Neon on it. Make sure you get the Arm compatible distro if you want to try it. I did use the Purism distro for a long time and it worked okay for me too. But I just wanted to experiment a bit with other distros. It works fine with Neon and functions just like a laptop now. I can still use the stylus if I want, but I prefer a Bluetooth mouse.
