Problem connecting to librem tunnel in Debian Stretch

I’ve been struggling to get Librem Tunnel to work on my Debian stretch 9.11. I have followed the instructions in https://docs.puri.sm/Librem_One/PureOS/VPN_Tunnel.html to the point where I have the Librem Tunnel VPN in my connection manager configured with the hashed username and password. When I try to connect it immediately disconnects and tells that the connection has failed. Here’s the output from my syslog:

Dec 16 18:48:23 mikko-debian NetworkManager[761]: [1576514903.4376] audit: op=“connection-activate” uuid=“XXXXXXX” name=“XXXXXX@librem.one US1” pid=2164 uid=1000 result=“success”

Dec 16 18:48:23 mikko-debian NetworkManager[761]: [1576514903.5215] vpn-connection[XXXXXXX,“XXXXX@librem.one US1”,0]: VPN connection: failed to connect: ‘Invalid HMAC auth.’
Dec 16 18:48:23 mikko-debian NetworkManager[761]: [1576514903.5229] vpn-connection[XXXXXXX,“XXXXX@librem.one US1”,0]: VPN plugin: state changed: stopped (6)
Dec 16 18:48:23 mikko-debian NetworkManager[761]: [1576514903.5238] vpn-connection[XXXXXXX,“XXXXX@librem.one US1”,0]: VPN service disappeared

So I guess the problem is with HMAC authentication? Even though the credentials have been entered correctly in the setup (I’ve done the configuration multiple times)? Can anyone help me figure this one out?

Solved this myself (Using those docs like a big boy : https://docs.puri.sm/Librem_One/Generic.html). Changed the cipher to AES-128-CBC and HMAC auth to default and that did it.

Hello @mihy

Are you using Gnome? If so, please go to: VPN Settings > Identity > Advanced > Security >

And change: HMAC Authentication to Default
