Hello,
since latest system updates, Element is not longer starting. If I run
element-desktop
I get:
Opening main window
[4921:0100/000000.154780:ERROR:ui/gl/egl_util.cc:92] EGL Driver message (Error) eglCreateContext: Requested version is not supported
Memory access error
When I run
element-desktop --disable-gpu
there is no EGL version problem, but it still crashes with the memory access error (Speicherzugriffsfehler in german)
No, same issue for me. I would recommend not to wasting time to tinker with it. Just install another client until Crimson becomes available. I tested Element there and it works again.
It seems they dropped support for old Debian versions. As you quote “Requested version is not supported” seems at least a specific component is no longer supported.
The web app is probably very slow, since Firefox performs not so well. But it should work. On L5 I have not tested anything else, yet, except Chatty. But it only supports texting and file sharing was not implemented correctly. Not sure what’s the current state.
Currently I’m using Matrix (via Element) on desktop only. But I consider to ditch Element on L5 entirely, since the Element team does not care about usability at all. They do not improve touch input, recently they implemented a regression related to the room panel size and categories while not fixing them as a lot of people requested for. They do not care for mobile devices (including tablets) beside Android or iOS. They do not even care about accessibility. The work they have to do wouldn’t be much. I do not like the project any longer and waiting (at least for desktop) for full featured Neochat.
On phone many people looking forward to fractal, but I don’t know its current state.
