A very good post, as usual. I also really like the sneak preview. Probably I will never have this experience on my phone, because I flashed already to Crimson, and it works already well.

I would encourage people to report discovered issues on Crimson here, as suggested in this earlier blog. But, first check if the issue has been reported (and maybe closed already) before reporting. Or discuss any issue on Crimson in this nice forum thread about the Crimson experience.

The hassle with registration was reason enough to not participate there.

@dos: Would you mind to package Nautilus version 46, too - as you(?) did with Calls? I think it contains already some usability fixes. On version 43 I only can navigate via hitting Enter on my OSK.

No:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 builddeps:. : Depends: libadwaita-1-dev (>= 1.4.0) but 1.2.2-1 is to be installed
Depends: libgexiv2-dev (>= 0.14.2) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libglib2.0-dev (>= 2.79.0) but 2.74.6-2+deb12u8 is to be installed
Depends: libgnome-autoar-0-dev (>= 0.4.4) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libgtk-4-dev (>= 4.12.0) but 4.8.3+ds-2+deb12u1pureos2 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

I’m not going to backport all these dependencies into crimson unless there’s a very good reason to do so.

What do you mean by that? I can navigate with crimson’s Nautilus on my phone without using OSK.

I see, a way too much work for a temporary solution.

“Only” is wrong, but it is hard to double tap on a folder or file to open it. So hard, that I started to use the Enter key, because it is faster. I had no such issues on Byzantium and on Mobian Trixie and beyond it also works flawless again.

That’s why it defaults to a single tap.

Which causes even worse issues (opening files and folders all the time I don’t want to). So using keyboard to open files/folders is even better than single tap to me.

I see many audio fixes. But what about regression in HDMI audio? Connected to lapdock gives no sound over HDMI as it was on Byzantium

Is there an issue reported for this? If not, would you mind doing so?
I think regressions can be reported here.

Yes, being aware of issues makes it easier to fix them  Good news is that I can reproduce it here, which tends to have the same effect.

How exactly do I report issues if registrations are restricted? @dos I have dozens of Crimson regressions to report

The notice at the top of https://source.puri.sm has a link to https://developer.puri.sm/Librem5/Contact/Contributing.html and basically says contact Purism in a Matrix channel or contact Purism support (support@puri.sm) to ask for a manual approval. You need to first create an account which will be placed on hold until an admin approves it.

It’s probably easier when you provide a correct e-mail with no typos in it, so you can receive the validation mail.

I’ve edited it manually and approved your account.

The approval process is unfortunate, but sadly necessary. Say thanks to cryptocurrency miners and LLM training data scrapers for making the forge unusable without it.
