It really would fill an empty niche, because there are no other options out there. Mush less, an option which can run with a free/libre and open source (FLOSS) operating system;
Here are the specifications:
High end quad core i7 (ending in HQ not that underpowered U line), for instance, the I7 6700HQ;
Integrated Intel graphics for best compatibility with FLOSS;
A physical switch for the battery so that you can plug the system to an outlet all day long without using the battery (and hence, without wasting the battery recharge cycles);
Allow room to have 32GB RAM
Illuminated keyboard;
A keyboard layout which has all the arrows, plus the insert, delete, home, End, pgUp and PgDown keys somewhere that makes sense, without having to use the Fn key)
At least FullHD without PWM for the backlight and hopefully with an IPS or better technology;
At least a Gigabit ethernet port;
Atheros wifi, bluetooth etc.
A decent camera (one that cames with a smartphone, perhaps?)

Well, it has almost double higher power consumption, it is not very suitable for a laptop.
– Integrated Intel graphics for best compatibility with FLOSS;
We already have this.
– A physical switch for the battery so that you can plug the system to an outlet all day long without using the battery (and hence, without wasting the battery recharge cycles);
A nice idea, we could consider that perhaps.

Our Librem 15 already supports 32 GB.
– Illuminated keyboard;
Librem 15 again, upcoming Librem 13 v2.

Librem 15.

We already have matte IPS screen.
– At least a Gigabit ethernet port;
Librem 13 has it.
– Atheros wifi, bluetooth etc.
Yup.

I think the OP has a point: it is very hard to find a recent notebook that is at the same time small and powerful. One can either chose an under 14" notebook that is slower (ULV Intel processors, those that end in U) or an over 14" laptop that has a discreet GPU ("gaming market, or so it seems).
Intel has a good option with its Iris Pro GPU, if only we could find a notebook with it and a true quad core processor in a small form factor…
I don’t know about him, but I would gladly trade battery life for a more powerful computer at a smalish size. We are not alone, either. Even Linus Torvalds was quoted complaining that he doesn’t care too much or battery life, because most of the time he is near a power outlet. He has a Dell XPS 13 because of the size.
Mr Pejaković, one other thing: the OP (and myself) are interested in those 13" models, if only they had some missing features and a better processor. In your reply you have mixed features that are present in 15" models with 13" models that Purism offers.

Oh, I see now. I didn’t pay attention to the topic title, sorry.
If you had time to read about our business model and vision as well as business challenges we are facing, you would see that laptop manufacture is really not an easy thing to do. At this point we cannot simply invest time and money in producing a high-end expensive laptop, as only few people would buy it. Perhaps we could make another crowdfunding campaign just for this, but we are now facing more important things to do. When we accomplish thing we have promised to our customers/supporters, then we will be able to think bigger things. But we are grateful for your interest, as well as your suggestions - we might consider it some time in the future.
I think that you’re underestimating the need for small factor high end laptops. It took me few months to decide on my upgrade(with unlimited budget), and even than my first choice was returned because of build quality issues.
I think that there is a market for something like “Skull Canyon NUC” in ultrabook form factor. But I understand the risks that small company need to take for such product, and maybe crowdfunding campaign for such product would be a better start.
Yes, but how many people there are with unlimited budget? I doubt such campaign would be successful. But anyway, we have other more important things to worry about now.
– At least FullHD without PWM for the backlight and …
We already have matte IPS screen.
But you omitted the most important part: is it also free from PWM?
Surprisingly there’s no information about it anywhere, yet this is absolutely critical for displays.
(I’m not talking here about 13’’ laptops only, but about all Librem laptops)
More than you may think… ? I have an unlimited budget for the “right” laptop… its an important tool I use all day… the quality and features and more important to me than price (within reason of course)
I have been a 10+ hr/day self-employed laptop user for 20 yrs and had not even come across this before And now… am 100% wanting this too… if I move from MacBook Pro to Librem I dont need eye issues… so voting this UP one. I think the Librem has so much potential, we just need to tweak a few things and its then a big winner.
