Can someone point me to a guide to help me reflash the firmware on my L14?
I’m entering very foreign territory here so if there is a step by guide that will help enormously. I found a github site with older software on it, but its of no use because I’m really seeking an idiot’s guide…if one exists.
I’m now thinking that my problems are related to the CMOS battery. I posted elsewhere that problems started with my L14 entering a recovery shell after not being able to find a default OS after a fresh install of QUBES. I could recover things by doing an OEM/ownership reset. It would boot up after I did this for a few times. But when left it overnight it was back to the same. I noticed that the time was also wrong. When I fixed this and left it overnight I noticed that the time was as had corrected it the day before, it hadn’t moved. Add to this was that it wouldn’t boot unless I had it plugged in.
Bottom line is that I recovered things yesterday, reset the time and rebooted it a few times. I left it off but with power to it overnight. This morning it booted up fine so I’m now thinking that this is a CMOS battery issue. Not something that I can buy easily but I have ordered one and hopefully that is the issue.
I don’t relish the idea of reflashing firmware etc, or reinstalling QUBES (which just annoys me, and was unlikely to the the problem anyway). So, fingers crossed that a new battery is the issue. I’ve had this laptop since 2022 so maybe the battery has just had its time. I hope so.
But if worse comes to worse I have the links that I thank you again for.
If the device authentication is failing and it is using TOTP then failing to keep correct time after a shutdown could be an explanation (and flat battery could be an explanation for that). If you have a multimeter, you may be able to test the battery.
