I hope Purism will take this into consideration when they’ll host their own Matrix instance and somehow find a workaround for this issue.

At least that does not appear to be a problem with the Matrix protocol itself, but rather how the Riot client handles group calling. I know Purism has been fostering development of the Fractal client for GNOME, but it will be worth keeping an eye out for how that client handles things. Still, I’m sure Purism will do their best to avoid it.
