This isn’t typically a problem on personal computers unless blended with some other exploit, a remote exploit, that first gets the attacker local access.

You should update if you share your computer with family and friends. Or some who put an USB inside to display some photos or can-you-print-a-pdf-for-me.

Same for Routers which accept usb for Files or Media to share with the cloud. Someone could insert an USB too.

Or if you have to unzip a packed archive and do not known whats inside first.

I fixed that with an update to the new kernels. However my old android is not affected cause this issue was not in that kind of old kernels.
