Shipping starts in a week , any email's received yet?

Here are the pictures from the “First Librem 5 Smartphones are Shipping” blog post in even higher (probably original) resulution.

I got them via a huuuuge hack (removing the resolution part from the images’s urls).

Hmm… Enough detail now to see what “unfinished switch caps (hand crafted)” means.

And also much clearer to see the rounded display corners. Although there have been other upclose pictures since then.

Detailed pictures of the switch caps are already released by purism on mastodon: https://cf.mastohost.com/v1/AUTH_91eb37814936490c95da7b85993cc2ff/fosstodon/media_attachments/files/002/750/012/original/911066ea8b1a0594.jpeg

Although closer, those where blurred at the caps compared to this. (edit: I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the caps, that one just shows one slightly less finished that the others - and I’d still like to get much more closeups [“tech porn”?])

The back looks like it was out of natural stone. Uhhh.

I hope it is not heavy as granit, but solid not to say…hard.

I will start a new thread for Librem 5 photos and videos.

No need to. Look here.

I’ll add your hi-res ones there. Nice find!

Nice. Unfortunatelly I already started the thread. I modified it to link to the wiki with a call for contribution.

The distance from the switches to the outer case makes me think for sure it was just a concession in the worst case scenario. See here.

They are clearly trying to make even Aspen a great device to use.

I think there are all available images in it.
I put your hi-res versions as link below there medium-res parts.

I think the metal milled cases look great. I would be very happy with an Aspen model. Glad i suggested being ok with it in my response to the email.

I am very much looking forward to getting my hands on this phone.

Thanks @Caliga for the picture wiki and linking it here.

You might have said that in jest, but stone would be a great material for a phone case. It’s tough, ecologically friendly, water-resistant and radio-transparent (for relatively thin bits of stone, at least). If you drop a granite phone on to a concrete slab, you may well end up cracking the concrete (just like the Nokia 3310 of legend).

Stone is too heavy! (20chars)

Only in this gravity! Or it could be pumice rock

nothing a little duck greese can’t fix …

You would think that they could put a ruler on the side for sizing considerations.

they would need a very precise ruler …

Would the queen count as a precise enough ruler?
