do I understand correctly I need to contact Purism in order to get access to Matrix?
If I visit https://im.puri.sm/#/register
I just get: Unable to query for supported registration methods
You need to have an account already, ypu cannot register at our server.
Do I do that by contacting you guys via email?
Matrix is a distributed system which means there are many servers with all interact with each other. You just need to be registered by one of them. One convenient option is to register your self onf the matrix.org site. But there are more server which are open for registration. Purism has their own server which is just not open for every body. But you can join the purism channels from any server you register. Just like you can mail every body no matter which provider you chose.
