Could this discussion and/or fwupd being the reason the L5 Store still doesn’t do anything, except draw the template, and doesn’t list any of the products?
I have been told that it can take some time to appear. Is 2 hours not long enough to wait for the list to fill?
It’s been like this for several years. Even after a multitude or re-install OS and even sending it to Puri didn’t change anything.
I want to get the deadware icon off the screen but assume that the Pure OS Store itself may have several dependencies. So it stays. It would be nice if we could uninstall something with it affecting something else.
Will Puri be setting things up so we can install from a link, the same way websites do?

No. It is unrelated.
To the best of my knowledge, fwupd operates completely independently of apt. They both update files to new versions by downloading from the internet - but that is the extent of their connection. In any case, it was suggested that fwupd may be disabled in PureOS since fwupd is not needed.
I didn’t test the following instructions and the layout of the commands appears borked but the post at least points you in the right direction for how to remove an ‘icon’ from the desktop without actually uninstalling the software that provided that ‘icon’ (because, as you imply, it is not always safe or a good idea to randomly uninstall software): [Hint] Remove Icons
Some updates to the store have appeared recently, and I applied them all. But I’m on the current PureOS 11 / Crimson; I’m not sure if they apply to PureOS10 / Byzantium (if you’re still on that). You can check for updates in the terminal (command: sudo apt update, then sudo apt upgrade if there are any updates found).
My PureOS Store app populates the lists slowly lately, too, but it eventually works. I imagine it depends a lot on the network in use and on the Librem 5’s “speed.”
This already exists sort of. In the PureOS Store app, tap the Updates tab, then the 3-line (“hamburger”) menu, then About PureOS Store (currently version 43.5, as of this date). There’s a link to the PureOS software website where every package has an install button. Be aware that not all those packages display or operate properly on the phone screen. (The site includes Purism’s desktop software, too, obviously.)
The link opens in whichever browser you’ve set as default. You can bookmark it there, of course.
So the question remains: On a Librem laptop, should you replace GNOME Software with PureOS Store, and why?
It did not get replaced automatically with the upgrade to PureOS 11 Crimson, but I did have a few issues when upgrading on that machine.
