Software Freedom Day is scheduled for 21 September for this year, 2024. Please share how you are celebrating or sharing the benefits of FOSS for Software Freedom Day.
"Last year, DFF reported not having a single US-registered SFD event. With the support of companies like System76 and our shared commitment to digital freedoms, we aim to have at least ten Software Freedom Day events in the United States and double global participation in 2024.” said Jurgen, the Spokesperson of the Digital Freedom Foundation.
System76 has pledged to help boost participation in Software Freedom Day.
Looking at the Phoronix forums, it seems that only one event has been added since July.
It’s a shame Purism isn’t participating this year, at least based on the list of Service Sponsors, Friends of DFF, and Outreach Supporters where they are not listed.
This may be a drop in the bucket, but I will do my part by using Linux the whole day on my laptop instead of its default OS which will rename unnamed (I am not ashamed of using it, I just don’t want to detract), and reaching for my Librem 5 first instead of my other non-free devices.
In fact I’m already booted into Linux (been a while!!) and am using it for working on some side projects and being less distracted by the other OS’s bells and whistles.
