Isn’t the whole point of privacy to “hide your license plate”?
Disagreements about pricing is the main reason why I wanted to let the auction figure out the right price - but apparently we can’t have nice things since it doesn’t seem like there’s a good way to stop people from bidding and not paying. I picked a value based on the few other sales of Librems on ebay, but I’ll just lower it anyway until it’s the right price for someone. I think it’s called a Dutch Auction…
A valid point - the battery serial number too - but exactly how easy would it be for ebay to identify the user if
- the purchaser creates a new unique, one-off account for the purposes of this purchase
- the purchaser accesses the ebay site via a VPN
?
That depends on whether Purism is obliged to, or otherwise, keeps records linking serial numbers to purchasers.
What about a subpoena on @Stephen304 ?
I would think anyone worried about the secrecy of serial numbers would probably buy new. Also - reminder that I am only shipping to the US, and the phone has a US modem so it might not be useful outside of the US anyway.
Even so, whether you are selling a car or a phone or anything else, I would urge you to remove any unique identifying numbers (and any “barcodes”) from any images that you use in the sales process.
Looks like it was sold! For $940. Do I have that right?
