Sourcing Librem 14 battery replacement in Tanzania

Peace,

I bought my Librem 14 Laptop back in 2021. I had to do a battery replacement last year in May 2024 and switched to a 3-cell (had to get a 0 ohm resistor installed to support it). Now I’m facing issues with the battery where my laptop will shut off completely if the power cord is unplugged. I actually had been noticing problems for a couple months before this recent issue where if the battery reaches 59% it shuts off (along with a separate issue of the hinge breaking)

I am now looking to get the battery replaced specifically with a 4-cell again. However, I’m currently in Tanzania. As such, does anyone have detailed information on the 4-cell batteries sold on the purism shop so that I could find a local source here (i.e specs, name of battery, etc.)? And does someone also have the name of the supplier Purism uses for the Librem 14 batteries?

Did you keep the old 4-cell or take a photo of it? Underlying details are often on the battery itself. Otherwise I would suggest contacting Purism directly (not least because a laptop should be able to operate from mains power with the battery completely removed). Contact - Purism user documentation

I do not have information on the 4-cell battery, but I can provide information on the 3-cell battery if needed.

Yes, there are the populated fields:

  • Product Name
  • Model
  • Rated Capacity
  • Rated Voltage
  • Limited Charge Voltage
  • Executive Standard
  • Caution
  • Manufacturer
  • OPF
  • Country of Origin

However, I cannot necessarily assume that it is identical to the 4-cell battery’s specifications.

The previous 4-cell batttery had to be properly disposed of as it had bloated and any pictures I had has been lost as an incident had happened before I could properly backup one of my devices.

I have sent an email to purism support. Once I get what I need, i will share it here perhaps it will be of benefit to someone in the future.

The information about the 4-cell battery we can share is:

  • Manufacturer: Shenzhen Cholipower Technology Co., Ltd

We are able to ship standalone batteries internationally, however, this comes with an expensive Dangerous Goods fee of USD $155.00 on top of the normal shipping fee and possible customs and import taxes. Please let us know if you would like to proceed with this.
