Those oldies from https://talk.maemo.org will remember we didn’t have a like button we had a thank button, at first it was uncomfortable for me to not post a polite thank you but it eliminated those wasted posts when you could click and allowed us to see everyone’s names who thanked a post. Who would like a ‘thank’ button?
the results would look like this:
The Following 12 Users Say Thank You to dos1 For This Useful Post:
cipper, freemangordon, joerg_rw, kingoddball, koznj, MartinK, mece, OVK, Rauha, santeira, tangent, Wikiwide
Sounds nice! But would it replace the “like” button (the heart), or would both exist, and you could click either “like” or “thank” or both?
I really dont know, but I like consensus for feature add, both like and thank seem to serve a slightly different and useful purpose and also reduce the need for wasted posts.
A precursor question might be: Is that even possible with Discourse?
Because I wouldn’t like to think that Purism takes on the job of maintaining a fork of Discourse. I mean sure given unlimited resources but …
My own opinion: “like” is good enough. “like” is ambiguous / multi-purpose. “like” can be used as a “thank”. So there is already no need for wasted posts.
You can already get a list of users who have clicked “like”, albeit not in the exact format that you specified.
A slightly insipid alternative is to include “thanks in advance” in the original request.
