hmm…I wonder if profits are the real issue here: colonizing our brains would be worth so much more!
Isn’t that what all Big Tech is trying to do everyday with every technology? AI is only the latest step.
AI is a quantum leap in this regard. Big Techs have harvested so much data about every connected human on earth - really a gigantic pool of data/gold. But they didn’t know how to fully exploit this treasure, other than for placing personalized ads hoping to create purchase impulses out of fine-grained profiling. But AI will be incredibly good at exploiting all the PII Big Tech own: think of it as an expert neurocognitician/psychologist/psychiatrist/sociologist/behaviorist knowing everything about you, your cognitive biases, psychology, personality flaws, habits, beliefs, etc…the perfect tool for perfect manipulation of the brain (and not only for selling you something)
And the next step is implants into the body itself. That could come in various different forms but one form would be as an advanced human-machine interface i.e. controlling a computer directly by thoughts. But who would be controlling whom?
