Toronto-based censorship circumvention provider Psiphon is preparing to move its operations out of Canada if Bill C-22 passes in its current form, warning that surveillance obligations could undermine the protections its users depend on.
Bill C-22 would establish a framework requiring covered electronic service providers to develop technical capabilities that support authorized access to information by police and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service. The proposed legislation also restricts disclosure of ministerial orders, including whether a provider has received one.
and they are not alone: Toronto-based Windscribe VPN is also considering an exit.
Just like Proton AG relocated all their infrastructure out of Switzerland in a haste some time ago over concerns about a planned new executive ordinance of that nature (which was withdrawn after wide population rebuff)
This seems to be a worldwide trend and it’s scary
i am a world human and not Canadian. However i understood. We all need some intelligence and protection. And yes some local VPN is just a free internet support on a common free sub layer. Intelligent Service have some needs to observe and measure it. And we have to hope they done it right and got not exploited by some other LLM.
We as Humans need to protect and have our own thoughts saved through … stuff like offline self crypto writings. I wrote this from a privacy perspective because its important to save thoughts.
I just hope that in the end all human connect together for some programs.
Scary is just the new one. it is not some enemy. Its some new evolution division we all try to explore…
Libgeoclue teaches us that the VPNs are compromised. I have never operated with the assumption of anonymity online. I know that they are watching. In the unlikely event that the US government is hiding knowledge about the presence of invisible alien life on Earth, now would be a good time to inform fellow man before the situation gets any worse. Their petty greedy quarrels about the price of oil or who possesses the billions of dollars pale in comparison to the enslavement of the species.
(That being said, given that it was possible to have humans obtain perceived freedom prior to the invention of the internet, there is a higher likelihood of humans being the bad actors at the top in society than the non-humans, because if the non-humans had wanted to do something bad they would have done so without informing humans of the concept of the surveillance technology.)
