I believe it’s true for my Pixel 7a with GrapheneOS too (i.e. newer Android) . However, I haven’t really tested that.

I’ve been looking into applications of being able to detect the distance of the Librem 5 from various other bluetooth devices, and have concluded that it is unreliable to do so via BT. I stumbled upon UWB, and was doing research, and found that the car companies all seem to be moving towards using it for detecting proximity, where-as bluetooth is used only for initial authentication.

Bluetooth you can use for proximity, but your accuracy is in a range of meters, whereas UWB accuracy is within a few centimeters. Anyways, hoping whatever version 2 of the Librem 5 or any Librem 1 (smartwatch), has UWB & NFC built in as well, they seem like they will be essential in the coming decade for various applications.
