tried to install brave on my pure os PC release 9.0 amber, command line will not accept my sign on password. Is there a compatibility issue? A few days ago Firefox kept telling me to update but would not!
First obvious question: Why are you using that old and obsolete amber version? It just might be that Breve can’t be installed on that anymore (never mind any password issues, which are unlikely connected to Brave as such). FF may not be able to update since old Amber repository may not offer newer anymore. So, can you update to byzantium first (or do a new installation from scratch, which is the more recommended option, if I remember right)?
Thanks JR-Fi, the software declared it was updated, how old is amber? Anyway thank you, I left windows 4+ years ago because I caught windows updating my 7 to 10 without my acceptance.
I have been very happy with pure os though there have been some issues.
I’ll come back to ask about compatibility issues with my HP PRO 3130 MT.
Amber is based on Debian 9 and byz is based on 10. The more current Debian version is 12 from June 2023 (12.9 update came January 2025). Debian 9 was mothballed June 2022, making amber EOL (end of life). No available updates are showing because none is provided anymore. PureOS development is lagging behind a few years (compare: Debian -- Debian Releases and Repositories & Suites - PureOS Software where crimson is still worked on).
Here you can find out how to update to byzantium which is still usable, although just barely (crimson is coming this spring, hopefully, at last): Download PureOS
For printer woes, check if the update helps there as well. Although, if memory serves, there have been old threads about printing problems that you could check too.
Amber is a fairly outdated version, instructions to upgrade are on the PureOS website.
Unfortunately that means only that amber
is saying that there are no further updates available for amber
, which is correct. Unfortunately it doesn’t tell you that byzantium
is available as a major version change.
