developed by one of the world’s largest data harvesting company, Alphabet (Google)
If Google isn’t the world’s largest data harvesting company, I would like to know who is! Data harvesting is Google’s raison d’être and has been for a very long time.
(NB: Specifically referring to companies. I know that some governments may well be even worse.)
Trump T1 Phone vs. Purism Liberty Phone
Of course any comparison of the two phones might mention that you can’t actually buy the Trump T1 Phone right now.
(The Trump company has quietly changed the availability date on the web site from a specific date to “when it ships” and “later this year”. That is not to say that Purism has a stellar record of shipping new products on time.)
I not sure what wrong with Android, as Android is so cool, super powerfull, super featured, Android made USA. Android is fully Opensource. Opensource User need to be super happy as it is not Gnu but Linux. ![]()
We need to separate Android from Google, as Google it is bad thing from Android, however Google it is removable as same Opensource metaphor. Android is it the best Linux Mobile! IMHO
However i hate Opensource and Android UI,UX.
I really didn’t expect so much Trump bashing from an American company that want to bring production of end-user tech back to USA. ![]()
There are conflicting aspects. Trump is a two-edged sword. But maybe pursuing that will end up in Round Table. ![]()
I just realized the amount of T1-comparisions and didn’t want to create a Round Table off-topic. ![]()
It’s the second blog post about the Trump T1 Phone that I am aware of. Maybe 3 would be too many. ![]()
I thought it was the third, but I guess I mixed it up with other shared news.
Like in stabbing others (sometimes rightfully) and simultaneously committing seppuku?
The official page for the phone used to proclaim that it is "proudly designed and built in the United States”. The phone is now described as being “Designed with American values in mind” and as having an “American-Proud Design”.
I wonder if the people behind Trump Mobile knew that they were peddling BS when they announced that the Trump T1 phone would be made in the US or they really tried to find a contract manufacturer in the U.S. and discovered that they couldn’t find any companies that would do the work for the price they were prepared to pay. Given Trump’s history of fraud, it wouldn’t surprise me if they deliberately lied to get preorders, but the delays in shipping the phone suggests that there are a bunch of incompetents running Trump Mobile, so they might have tried to get it assembled in the US. Trump’s decision to gut the Inflation Reduction Act and Trump’s trade wars have massively cut investment in American manufacturing.
Aside from the Librem USA/Liberty which costs $1999, there hasn’t been any phones made in the USA since the Motorola RAZR V3 in the mid-2000s and the Motorola Moto X, which was assembled in a Flextronics factory in Fort Worth, TX between May 2013 and May 2014. The Moto X was an expensive experiment by Google to revive American manufacturing, and it wasn’t long after that that Google sold the Motorola brand to Lenovo.
Considering that the Trump T1 phone probably only has around $200 of hardware, it is possible that they originally planned to assemble it in the US, since they were selling it for $499. However, we know that the phone was probably designed by a Chinese company, since nearly all the smartphone ODMs and IDHs are Chinese companies (Huaquin, Longcheer, Wingtech, MobiWire, TINNO, Chino-e, Ragentek). The Taiwanese companies Arima and Compal quit the market in 2019, and now only FIH Mobile (a subsidiary of Hon Hai/Foxconn) remains, and its principal client, HMD/Nokia, has mostly disappeared from the smartphone market, so FIH Mobile has moved away to other types of devices. Most of the other non-Chinese companies (Wistron, FLEX, Pegatron, etc.) only do assembly, but don’t design phones.
