Turning a Linux tablet into more screen space for a linux computer

I keep thinking about how I would like to have the option to use my Arch’ish Linux tablet as a part-time second screen for my Ubuntu’ish Laptop; everything is running wayland.
In gnome you can enable RDP and it seems that remmina and freerdp will do the job.

Any guidance from someone who has already done this?
If I get this working nicely I will turn this into a how-to guide as it will also work for the PureOS tablets and laptops.
This is different than having a window of my tablet like we have with VNC, this is an attempt to get more display real estate.

I suppose I should set up USB networking between laptop and tablet so it is not using wifi and it also keeps the tablet charged.
If this really works out maybe I need to get a lasercut and bent plexiglass holder to sit weighted by the laptop to hold up the tablet

This is what MirrorHall (GitLab project) set out to do but it looks like the project has been abandoned.

I tried mirrorhall and it didn’t work right. I don’t remember if it was on my phone or tablet as I have had both for a while, and before that a pinephone.
