Unable to follow anyone on other Mastadon instances

Hi,

I know that the Purism Mastadon instance hosted at social.librem.one is an ‘opt-in’ server, but does this prevent me following people on other instances? Everyone I try and follow on other instances is permanently in ‘pending’ state. People on social.librem.one instance itself are fine, I can follow them without problems. Maybe there is some setting I can change?

I follow people on other instances.

If one client is just going to a pending state, try another one. When I follow someone new, I use the web app. In the past following someone on Tootle (Linux app) would put that follow into a “pending” state.
