UnifiedPush - decentralized push notifications

Hey there!

I think push notifications are a very important part of an OS to be more usable for a broader range of users.

With UnifiedPush, work has been done to create a specification and tools to easily setup push notifications without relying on a proprietary centralized service.

There is a D-Bus specification for it and with KUnifiedPush an integration for KDE is available.

I just wanted to:

  • make people aware of it
  • (hopefully) find out whether this is something a PureOS dev has been thought about

Best regards!

Would be useful to make other stuff like text notifications be able to forward to KDE Connect on PureOS (if indeed that’s how it works).

Could you elaborate on that? I’m not sure I understood what you mean.

I use KDE Connect for push notifications, but I have found that it lacks the ability to send notifications from Calls and Chatty

You mean, to trigger notifications on a Linux system when a connected device (smartphone) gets notifications?

That’s not the scope of UnifiedPush unfortunately - It’s more or less to handle push notifications on mobile devices (PureOS on Librem 5, Mobian, Plasma Mobile, PostmarketOS, …) directly
