I read the posts from 2022 about watching YT videos on the Librem 5. Would it stand to reason if I were to use a USB-C / HDMI adapter I could view the videos on my TV from my phone?
It would only stand to theory with DisplayPort Alt Mode at best. The Librem 5 is not subject to reason for functionality.
In theory, yes.
In practice, a range of compatibility issues can arise. So the starting point would be … forget about YouTube. Do you get external display at all for the given adapter and TV?
I have a vanilla USB-C to HDMI adapter … and Librem 5 to a monitor’s HDMI input via adapter for some monitor and some adapter definitely worked for me.
I haven’t tested this with a TV.
A dock with HDMI output may be an alternative to a vanilla USB-C to HDMI adapter.
If you are really talking about a TV then I’m not sure that you get any particular benefit in using the Librem 5 as the video source. Any computer with internet connection and HDMI output could do the job.
Since most adapters are short cords and so you don’t have to get up to do a click, get Irvinewade’s vanilla adapter then get a 20 foot HDMI extension cord.
One time we watched some stuff using my Librem 5. I have a nexdock and so I connect Librem 5 to the TV with a usbc adapter that included an hdmi port, plugged that into the L5 and also into the TV, then remotely connected the nexdock keyboard to the Librem 5 with wifi. This allowed me to use keyboard and touchpad from the comfort of the couch to control the display on the screen which was powered by the Librem 5.
But any bluetooth keyboard couldve done this, and the Nexdock in general seems like not as good hardware as what Purism manufactures themselves IMO
