Purism is investigating ways in which customers located in remote regions can still use their Librem 5 and Liberty phones for cellular calls.
These devices have a known limitation that they do not support voice-over-WiFi at this time. We expect to conduct R&D to enable this functionality in the future, but would like to test mitigating strategies for these remote users. This is an avenue where community feedback and contributions could be extremely helpful and appreciated!
For US-based customers (especially considering that Librem AweSIM uses AT&T as its MNO), one potential solution is to purchase an AT&T cell booster which connects to your existing network and provides a miniature cell tower allowing you to place calls without nearby cell service.
- Has anyone tested a Librem 5 or Liberty phone with one of these devices? If so, how would you describe the overall experience, quality, and coverage?
- Similarly to the community-maintained cellular provider compatibility table, how is the functionality using other MNOs using cell boosters like these in various regions throughout the world?
