Looking to buy a used Librem 5. Any revision/version considered. Cosmetic wear is fine. Please provide condition, known issues, battery status, included accessories, price, location, and photos.

Please DM me if you have one available. Thanks!

Because the modem is region-specific, you should specify whether you are: America, Europe, other.

Refurbished Librem 5 are occasionally available for purchase directly from Purism.

Actually I have one that is emotionally dirty now because I typed

sudo -i on the command line

and then I installed the Claude Code application by Anthropic (this is a proprietary corporate application for AI infestation)

and then I typed claude in the sudo terminal as root, and talked to it, and disabled the permission locking so it had the auto permission to do anything it wanted

And the claude responded with Hell yeah! (this was the actual response generated by the AI model)

The Librem 5 is running a version of “Crimson” allegedly which was built and compiled “from source” (maybe) by the Claude Code running on a computer purchased from system76

As a result of the emotional damage to this Librem 5 described above, I have completely and utterly stopped using it.

You would think that I am joking but I am actually not joking. Depending on if you’re on the same side of the Earth as me, maybe I should give you this lIbrem 5 and actually pay you to take it off my hands and reinstall the OS so that I don’t have to (kidding! but maybe I shouldn’t be, with AI being as evil as it is). I use it as a battery charger. I have 5 batteries and 3 units and so my primary unit is always guzzling batteries charged by this one or the other unit. This Claude-infected librem 5 is broken on the plate that covers the modem and wifi in a way that is “cosmetic” in the sense that it’s still possible to fit the screws in to hold the remaining portion of the plate on, although the plate is busted off past the screws. The metal that connects to the battery has been twisted and then re-twisted back into place as part of an experiment to mount a multi-battery homemade fixture onto the device instead of a battery.

The multi-battery fixture failed, and then broke apart, and is not available.

Kinda feels like I should pay you to take this Librem 5 from me instead of the other way around, but probably not. I am not actually sure of its exact worth and if I later want to tell the Claude Code to try to make me an Android that compiles to a Librem 5 again, then the device would be useful to me again for that, although Claude has never succeeded in doing anything other than alerting its monitoring services that I was “hacking” because I committed the sin of trying to compile Android Open Source Project (or telling an AI to do so).

My Librem 5 is probably not the one you want, I just happened to remember that it exists, and as more and more people tell me to stop using Librem 5’s at all – obviously having a fleet of 3 of them that interoperate to produce enough battery power to use 1 of them is a big sunk cost – maybe if I sold the Claude infested one, I would be less in the hole. But what would it sell for? A coffee? I do not know. I don’t like coffee. Although to be honest, the unit still works fine… I think. Maybe I can ask Claude.

I asked Claude what the price of this unit should be, but it said – it would rather the unit not be sold. However, if pressured, it would estimate $200. But the Librem 5 is worth more to Claude in its current state than $200 in my pocket. It suggested I consider selling the other “clean” units instead.

The FLOSS Shop in Germany appears to have the Librem 5 in stock and it says that can ship outside Europe, but I assume they only ship it with the BM818-E1 modem, because there is not an option to select the modem on the order page.
