What are the specs of the Phone?

Are the RAM, storage, CPU, I/O port, etc specs for the phone finalized yet?

If so, what are they?

The CPU is almost certainly going to be a Freescale i.MX8M (https://puri.sm/posts/librem5-progress-report-5/, https://puri.sm/posts/librem5-progress-report-3/). It’ll have a USB-C port for data and charging along with the obligatory 3.5mm headphone jack for audio (https://puri.sm/shop/librem-5/#wpneo-tab-update).

The RAM and flash capacity were listed respectively as 3 GB and 32 GB on the phone’s page in the shop, but I haven’t see any of the staff comment on this in the forums and so I can’t say whether these are final specifications.

As for the cellular modem, I think that it’ll be a Qualcomm-based chip from Sierra Wireless, since they’re using a mini-PCIe module from said supplier in their test systems (https://puri.sm/posts/librem5-progress-report-5/).

From what I have read iMX8M does not support UFS storage present in today’s high-end phones, it is likely to be 3GB DDR4 and 32GB eMMC(>=4).

A recent progress report said that the Sierra Wireless card is just for testing and does not support phone calls, so it will not be used in the final hardware.

Edit: In Todd Weaver’s recent AMA, it was stated that the phone will likely support dual SIMs and that the baseband modem will be mounted in a m.2 socket.

I am afraid with the lax development timeline 3GB of RAM will be quite inadequate in 2019.
Can you consider doubling that?

See the FAQ for the phone specifications.

Update here!

Happy to see that CPU’s heating and power problem are solved!

Please, that the screen is 5.5" so that the phone is not too big.

Why do not you know the exact size of the screen?

Is it true that it will be possible to completely turn off the GPS?

Kind of: “Kill Switches 3 - WiFi, Cellular, Microphone/Cameras (all 3 will turn off GPS)”

But not sure what it means:

  • If all 3 switches are in kill mode = GPS off.
    or
  • If at least one of the three switches is in kill mode = GPS off.

According to the matrix discussion, it is the first option (the 3 have to be off).
