Where does Phosh save screenshots? [PureOS]

Hello everyone!

I am attempting to take some screenshots but cannot find them anywhere.
All folders in my home directory do not appear to have any screenshots.

Where are they usually stored?
Thank you so much for any help/support.

@agx might be able to help you with that.
I assume you are using Byzantium.

In a terminal type:

apt-get install gnome-screenshot

which will install gnome-screenshot. A web search should tell how to use it.

I think the screenshots are stored in /home/purism/Pictures

My screenshots are in the Pictures folder, but I am using Byzantium and I use the Screenshots for Librem 5 app. I think it is not gnome-screenshot. It might have installed along with librem5-goodies or whatever that package was called. The app is a small gui with a time selector and a button that takes the screenshot on a delay after the time.

Edit:

I used “View Details” on the Screen Shot app on my home screen and the information provided seems terrible.

This app seems like absolute virus cancer of the highest order. (But it says it comes from Purism!) I could make this app in 3 hours, at least on any halfway decent Xorg machine, but the code is proprietary meaning it is like virus cancer on my Librem 5. Was is/was this the default? Is gnome-screenshot a different app than this?

Screenshots made via power button long press are saved in ~/Pictures/Screenshots since Phosh 0.43.0 (releases November 2024).

What about prior to that?
Doesn’t Byzantium run Phosh 0.29.0?

Yes but, no.

Its hard because everything protect your privacy. Still you can trust gnome screenshot, or gimp to capture your rendered librem5 screen.

In the past i remembered some import screen with xserver. So its some kind of improve that it is more complicate with gnome… right now.

Do not laugh. Improve privacy and take care for future.

Chris

Best is to update or to ask your distro to backport the patches (it’s almost a year old, this is ages in LinuxMobile)

gnome-screenshot is a completely different app and the app you’re talking about (l5-screenshot) is not proprietary, it’s just that Purism didn’t provide the necessary metadata. It’s a simple shell script that invokes grim. I don’t think it took the author even 3h to write it. It’s from 2020 and there’s I don’t think there’s any reason to use it anymore (unless someone likes this kind of interfaces). It was stitched together at a point where Phosh didn’t export the DBus interface used by gnome-screenshot and gnome-screenshot was not adaptive to small phone screens.

Crimson is running phosh-session 0.34.0 and phoc 0.33.0. It seems like Dawn might have this saving to ~/Pictures/Screenshots.

Yep, all the cool new things of Phosh come with Dawn, not with Crimson. Librem 5 goodies are outdated and should be replaced by GNOME screenshot (until Dawn - but you still can use it then if you like).

Makes no sense right now. It’s better to get Crimson and Dawn done instead of backporting anything that is not absolutely important. And screenshots can be done on Byzantium, so no need for backports here.

What is important for someone is unimportant for someone else. I’d rather not make the call for other people. I think galilley’s backporting work highlights this.

That’s it. Who want to have these features can use Mobian, backports (by Galilley) or alternatives(!) that exist. There is just no need for official backports at this point. Screenshots are very important to me, too and I’m using them for over two years on Byzantium without backports.

It’s more important that we get all the features of Phosh and GNOME software as soon as possible, because the improvements are so huge. How much longer would it take to backport any single feature that someone wants? Please backport Squeekboard 1.44 or above to me or Nautilus 45 or above or Phosh 0.38 or above - all these have improvements I really really want. Or just bring us Dawn and with it all the improvements to everyone together instead of wasting time until all people have what they want.

And dos (and probably others) thinks similar - he wants to bring Dawn as fast as possible. That we all have what we want with highest efficiency in speed and costs.
