where in the librem5 is reported the phone’s telephone number?
Suggest browsing the gnome-control-center.
Goto settings -> Mobile -> Modem Details.
Your phone number should show up there
Just wanted to pop in and say welcome to the forum!
And if you want to get it from the command line: https://source.puri.sm/Librem5/community-wiki/-/wikis/Tips-&-Tricks#modem-manager
Nope, it is not shown in the gnome-control-center.
Nope, it does not appear in Settings >> Mobile >> Modem Details
This approach does not work, here are the terminal results:
purism@pureos:~$ mmcli -L
/org/freedesktop/ModemManager1/Modem/15 [QUALCOMM INCORPORATED] 0
purism@pureos:~$ mmcli -m 15 | grep own:
purism@pureos:~$
Interesting. Works for me.
What if you do mmcli -m any | grep own:
instead?
Is it possible that you are in a non-English speaking locale and that text has been translated? Hence, for example, assuming that you know your own number, what if you grep
for your own number and see what other text is associated with it?
You do have a SIM inserted (and unlocked if applicable), right?
SIM card is inserted - I am able to send and recieve messages with wifi turned off.
locale is english speaking
Terminal output (no phone number given):
purism@pureos:~$ mmcli -m any | grep own:
purism@pureos:~$
OK, I think it’s some MVNO-specific weirdness. Mine must put the number somewhere on the SIM and the Librem 5 knows how to get it. Maybe there is some AT command (sequence) but I haven’t stumbled upon it.
I can confirm both GUI and the terminal command work for me. Modem number is however 1, not 15.

What does this command show?
mmcli -m any
I replaced the IMEI number, equipment ID, and device ID with x, didn’t know if I should make that public here.
purism@pureos:~$ mmcli -m any

Own number is provided by the SIM card - but some SIM cards don’t provide it at all, which seems to be the case here. If the SIM card provides it, it gets shown in GNOME Settings and in mmcli -m any
. FWIW, my SIM also doesn’t provide it.
Settings is actually the Gnome-Control-Center (see /usr/share/applications/gnome-control-center.desktop).
Sorry for the confusion.
Sorry for the last post about the Gnome-Control-Center. Had one of my increasing senior moments. Embarrassed to admit this until today being an icon person, I seem to have been mentally ignoring the word ‘Settings’ inder the Settings icon. Think it’s best to go back to lurking.
BTW I have an L5 USA which I purchased as a desktop CompuPhone’and have about 300 hours digging around. I support Purism 100 percent - the phone is exactly what I wanted - I’m not disappointed.
