Why PureOS over Qubes?

I’ve only just learned about Purism, but most articles I had seen mentioned that Purism and Qubes were working together on this.

So what’s with PureOS, and what’s the advantage of that over Qubes? I would expect there has to be a reason, rather than just using Qubes which I think is a brilliant OS. If PureOS was some kind of improvement upon Qubes or a Qubes-type of system then I’d consider it, but if it’s something completely different then that’s a different story.

Does it include the use of VMs and a Hypervisor like Qubes does? If not, I do believe I would want to use Qubes over PureOS anyhow, and I hope it’ll become available for Librem15. Is there a reason the Librem15 doesn’t have Qubes as an option?

Thanks.

Oh, and one thing I forgot to mention - Maybe switch from DuckDuckGo to StartPage? There’s good reasons to do so, as StartPage doesn’t use Amazon servers or have affiliation to anyone like DDG does to Yahoo - and best of all is that they work by basically sandboxing you behind a proxy. Pretty awesome, I really suggest you guys try it out for a while and see what you think of it.

PureOS (https://pureos.net/) is our spin of Debian, preloaded with some security programs (Tor and PureBrowser for example) and completely free (without any non free repos or programs). PureOS is intended for everybody, not just for advanced users. Qubes is special distro designed for advanced users and those who need extra layer(s) of security.

Not by default, but you can install one.

You can always install it yourself, it will work without problems.

Yeah, I personally always use StartPage. Will pass that suggestion, thanks.

i know is not really on topic, and is not about purism, then sorry about that, but i think is the best place where to ask

about search engine, i see people and purism twitter channel talk about ddg and startpage, but do you know searx.me? it seems good too
info about them in their website
https://searx.me/about

Yeah, not only is StartPage better about privacy I think (because of it’s proxy and not relying on other companies), but also it’s search results are better because they’re Google results through a proxy, and we all know that nobody really beats Google in search results. Figured I’d chime that in.

Well when I order I figure I’ll try to get it with Qubes. Try updating the selector for OS for Librem15 to add Qubes if you can. Thanks.

Also in reply to freespirit, I’m already aware of Searx but I don’t see any reason it would be any better than StartPage and I both like StartPage’s style more and the fact that they use Google results which is what I want more than anything, plus I don’t think Searx puts you behind a proxy which I think is the best thing about StartPage.

StartPage basically ticks all the boxes for me. But I guess it becomes a matter of preference and who you wanna believe/trust I guess. So I choose SP because I think it’s just better for it’s simple style, proxy, and results I guess. Slightly slower but that’s because they’re not using an outsourced CDN or anything like DDG is (DDG uses Amazon’s).

Oh, and lastly I’m aware of the stronger “preferences” menu in SearX, which has proxy settings, but StartPage has it all by default and I think it has all the defaults I would want to set anyway. Since I tend to delete all my temp data on a very regular basis and have cookies set to clear on exit, it’d be a real pain to have to go in and configure all of that again and again. StartPage has what I really want - Google results over a proxy - as it’s default.
