Why suspend doesn't turn off mobile data?

Is there way for suspend to also turn off mobile data to save battery ? i already have that setting enabled but doesn’t seem to work

Purism wants the phone to ring and SMS messages to be received. I agree though a method to truly suspend things would help save a lot more battery life. I like not being reachable because I am sleeping the phone. Now if I could just get the thing to boot without a frozen screen at disk decrpytion.

Maybe I’m missing something, but wouldn’t the hardware kill switch for cellular take care of this?

Yeah i mean you can still receive calls and sms even if you disable mobile data. I think it would help a lot with automatic suspend of mobile data , and not only wifi and bluetooth

Convenience.

The problem with that is… MMS won’t work

What Mobile OS and Device are you come from?
I mean SMS from 2G it do not need High Data to work, however SMS+(RCS) and MMS it need High Data enabled but Phosh still not supporting RCS.
About battery Life for Librem 5 there are some techniques that could help to spend 0.5% by Hour on Inactive Mode which the device still 0N to Ping via WLAN,WWAN for Notification, so S2R it not needed really, but this still need some Gnu Linux work. = )

Here where i live you get a SMS that someone has sent you an MMS with a link . As soon as you unlock the phone the mobile data will be activated and you can view the MMS.

I’m not certain, but I think VOLTE won’t work with mobile data disabled.

Correct, it will fall back to 3G or below.

I did a soft test several moths ago about it and VoLTE-4.5G still working without Data on my Librem 5, however the VoLTE Quality Voice is poor with or without Data Enabled. As far i know VoLTE it need a PA VoLTE Perfil in order to work full, it maybe need more work somewhere else too.

How can we know that Volte is activated? I can’t seem to find a setting or indication that is used

As Phosh still not support VoLTE you need an App dedicated for. Due to my limitations right now, please allow me to @FranklyFlawless to help us to find the app.

Thanks

bm818-tools, installed using this command:

sudo apt install bm818-tools

Restart your Librem 5 afterwards, then open the BM818 tool app, which has an icon of a blue circle with VoLTE text and an upright wrench on the right.

Depends what you mean by that. First you have to enable VoLTE (using the bm818-tools package). That doesn’t tell you whether VoLTE is actually in use (active) while on a call. I don’t think there’s a user-friendly answer for that yet.

It also depends on what country you are in. If you are in a country where 3G has been completely shut down then if calls are working, declare victory.

Is the call quality better when using Volte on Librem ?

The BM818 Tool app has a “Check call for VoLTE” button, which you can press while on a call to get the alleged true status. Of course, that still doesn’t mean it’s accurate, but hopefully it is.

Huh, nice. I didn’t know that.

I’ve been sshing in from a desktop and checking directly via the modem.

Yeah, it doesn’t really look much like a button.

So the fact that the option is there in Power Options - Mobile Data can be turned of to save data although it doesn’t do anything , does this mean its a bug ? Or a forgotten option since this does affect VoLte most probably ?
