Wi-Fi not showing up

Hi.
I have a Librem 14, and when I search for all available wi-fi connections, this one does not show up. Other devices, including L5 can detect this wi-fi connection, but my laptop can’t. What should I do?
Thanks

Which Wi-Fi module are you using?

:see_no_evil: don’t even know how to check.
Just wifi, but the other devices can find this wifi network, I also use Librem 5. The computer, meanwhile, shows other wifis, but not this one.

Anything unusually demanding with the security settings on the SSID that won’t show up?

Are we talking 2.4 GHz WiFi frequency range, 5 GHz WiFi frequency range or something else?

What WiFi version are we talking about? (either using the new, user-friendly, confusing numbering or the traditional 802.1xxxxx non-user-friendly naming)

One weird problem that sometimes occurs with other (unrelated) hardware is that, due to congestion, the Wireless Access Point is forced onto a channel that is configured out on some clients but configured in on other clients. This specifically applies to the 2.4 GHz frequency range. So what channel are you using? Or channels if you have more than one WAP? Is the channel being chosen automatically?

Another problem is that some Wireless Access Points are configured to advertise the same SSID on both frequency ranges, and some not, … but you would then need to check whether one frequency range is disabled on the Librem 14 (if the latter choice on the WAP).

Summary: WiFi offers a lot of choices and it is easy therefore for it not to work and hard to troubleshoot.

Hi,

the frequency range is 2467, it says it’s 2.4 Ghz.

Idk about the wifi options, never had this problem in my entire life with any of the devices I’ve used, neither in my country nor abroad, but of course, Librem is different…..

OK, that is 2.4 GHz WiFi Channel 12 and it is “dodgy” i.e. banned in some countries, restricted in others. (Channels 1 to 11 are the standard channels i.e. available worldwide.)

You haven’t said which country you are in, or whether you are in a WiFi-congested location.

Assuming that you control the Wireless Access Point, the easiest next step would be to try forcing the WAP onto a standard channel e.g. 11.

It is possible that an alternative solution would be to configure the country in the WiFi client device in the Librem 14 so that it knows that Channel 12 is allowed - but I don’t know off the top of my head what the incantation for that is (and you would have to know which WiFi module you have).

Reference reading: Wikipedia and random first other hit.

An alternative approach may be to force use of the 5 GHz WiFi frequency range but that is dependent on the WAP supporting it (and dependent on your being the one controlling the WAP).
