Looks like 5 unanimous votes within 24 hours on the poll is enough to implement the proposed categories (v2).

without having read all the detailed discussion about this, i would just like to say that i noticed JC recategorizing some topics i have opened and i appreciated it. iā€™m happy to see such work being done. thanks!

I have been flagging multiple threads in the background and also prepared batch operations via PM to @JCS, so you can expect the forums to get nice and tidy around here.

A little food for thought:
Sorry to seem picayune w/ this, but in this crazy day and age, one could avoid the risk of nemesis or stranger, maybe competition - that is, inclusivity is the buzz-noun of the month, so opposite of ā€œwhiningā€ would be, what? I like ā€œRants and Ravesā€ as it includes both sides.
Makes it easier too for Mods. And, people know what to expect in such a forum. The Good with the Bad and Mods could step if it gets Ugly.
Iā€™ve been through many forums that also have a Flame section. Anything goes that is not breaking, not even bending, the law. Most Flame are by invitation only.

Some say that such Rant & Rave, and/or Flame forum invite and generate rants and flames. Personally, I see it as driving those things to where they belong so they donā€™t interfere with the other forums.

Just sayā€™n sā€™all

There are many antonyms for ā€œwhiningā€, but ā€œgratitudeā€ comes off the top of my head, as well as ā€œpraisesā€ or even ā€œtestimonialsā€.

I could be wrong but I think you are a little late to the party with the extra food. @JCS has put up his proposal, feedback has been given, discussions had ā€¦ and the forum reorganised to fit the new hierarchy of categories resulting from that discussion.

I think that, in a quirk of the English language, ā€¦

(as verbs)

  • ā€œrant and raveā€ always implies the use of ā€œraveā€ in a negative sense, whereas
  • ā€œraveā€ by itself can be either negative or positive, depending on context.

As such, I think this might be too confusing or too subtle for non-native English speakers. If this were a forum for native English speakers discussing matters of English expression or writing style or whatever similar then Iā€™m sure the ambiguity and wordplay would be appreciated.

:+1:

That was my goal, not to prevent anyone from having their rant but just to confine their rant to one subcategory rather than plastered all over the forum.

@JCS Iā€™m hoping that you intend to fill in all the category descriptions and just havenā€™t found time yet.
