I guess your version of env is too old. I would suggest that you use man env to understand what env -S does and why it is needed in this particular scenario but I imagine that the man page itself will be too old and won’t mention that option (but you may have the possibility to issue the man command on another, more recent, Linux computer).
This is just Linux jiggerypokery though. If for some reason it is not convenient to get a more recent version of env, you can understand what it is trying to do and then hack it around to bypass the problem i.e. with a shell script. The concern would then be that if env is too old then other things may be too old - so the script might just not work.
I think all GPS issues that can be solved with software are resolved with Crimson. You will get a GPS link fast. But if it is not good enough, you probably need an external GPS (see How to set-up GNSS USB dongle - #10 by bschubs )
I had several Librem 5’s over time. For the oldest ones (from crowdfunding time) the GPS never worked very well. I have now also two newer Librem 5’s, both running Crimson and GPS works very well, getting quickly a fix. Maybe the very first time took a bit longer, but sometimes I get even inside a fix. Outside, I get a fix within 30 seconds, but usually immediately. So, I’m pretty sure some (older) Librem 5’s had a hardware issue with GPS.
If you’ve used the Location Services setting (Settings > Privacy > Location Services) PureOS Byzantium used Mozilla Location Service, however this service was retired in 2024. I assume that because the service was retired, enabling this feature didn’t do anything and solely relied on GPS. PureOS Crimson now uses beaconDB, which may be why getting a fix is much faster in Crimson if you enable Location Services.
That could depend on the batch too. I have a phone from crowdfunding time but Evergreen batch (i.e. the last batch from that time) and GPS is functional. And because Evergreen was such a large batch, it might depend on the phone within the batch. (I don’t get a fix inside but then if I’m inside, I probably know where I am. )
On my test times ago, all L5 Revs got same time to g.n.s.s location, so same sensibility, but come on L5 it is not made for fancy glonass reception, despite the big module.
Thank you. I have a crowdfunding era Librem 5. I am used to populating the GPS with the sarellite data, now and again, to insure quicker GPS fixes. However, I was wondering if Crimson fixed this issue which is what @dos appeared to suggest a year or so ago in this post.
No, nothing changed regarding AGNSS. If you want to skip downloading almanac and ephemeris from the sky, you have to upload the data to the module manually.
