The Crimson is purely for testing at this point. It is not suggested to “upgrade” to it. More updates and images are expected to come in the coming months. Expect to need to re-flash a new image if you use a testing image (the plan seems to be that there will be an upgrade path from byz, eventually). For more info, see " PureOS Crimson Development Reports" from Purism news page - monthly update expected in a week or so.

Almost certainly. It is difficult to change an unencrypted disk to an encrypted disk in situ.
Even apart from the disk encryption (current) restriction, there is some likelihood that you might have to reflash in order to get to the final (official) release of crimson - given the unpredictable and potentially buggy state of the many devices that have been testing interim releases of crimson.

the official crimson probably will be out very close to the end of the support of Debian 11 day which in Aug 31 2026. I don’t think it is even in the beta release now. Feels like byzantium will have another year without any updates.ha

In principle I see that Crimson works much better - scrolling in phosh really nice even after upgrade, backports come much more easily. Are anyone use it daily? Which blockers prevent that except the sound and mic problem?

Can you elaborate on this a bit by any chance?
I’m still running your Byzantium Backports and have had an issue that sounds like this since the last round of updates. I’ve kind of just ignored it.
- Turn on my BT headphones.
- See in the Phosh Quick Settings that it’s trying to connect.
- Wait 4-5 seconds, it fails, then I tap it again in Quick Settings to connect. If I’m quick I can do this before #2 and it always connects.
Is this what you were seeing? Did you ever find a solution?

In that post I meant my headphones connect to the phone (I see it in Quick Settings) but the music is still coming from the speaker and I have to go Sound Settings and switch the output by myself. In Byzantium the sound coming from the headphones automatically. However, there is another issue - when someone call me the BT profile should be switched from A2DP to headset to use the headphone’s microphone and back after the call to play music with the best quality.
Your case differs… If BT is on in Quick Settings then my headphones connect automatically most times (Byzantium). Otherwise I try to turn off BT, on again and connect manually (like your did). I think I will not care about this in Byzantium but definitely pay some attention when I switch to Crimson 
p.s. also I observe a small interference between wifi and BT, so, I disable wifi in case when I use mobile data for online music to get more stable connection.
p.p.s. There is a little bit upgraded firmware for SparkLAN module but I lost the link where I get it… it seemed to me more stable regarding BT connection.
upd: looks like this repo I used to download new firmware. However, I’ve just found newer one here and the newest one here! Let’s try…

Might be a good idea to add Crimson Backports so some packages like VVM and VVMPlayer would work on Byzantium.

I think there’s some confusion - byz and crimson do not co-exist. Both have backports of their own, separately (take a look at their respective threads: byz, crim).
With VVM, I take it you’re referencing Chris Talbot / vvmplayer · GitLab (which is available in byzantium already: apt-get install vvmplayer)…? Is it not installable in crimson?

Haven’t had a chance to try on Crimson, but I know Byzantium does not have the needed package versions for it to work.

Interesting. I seem to have it. Starts up fine, although I don’t have any idea if it otherwise works as I don’t have any visual voice mail to test it with. Are you using byz backports or no? Anyway, this seems like a question that should be in that thread.

The files from LibreELEC looks like the right choice, other links work not so stable for me.

I will create a .bak of the originals before attempting this. Maybe it will be good and I won’t have to remove that status.

So SparkLan BT should be a bit more stable with it then? I always had issues with the SparkLan module dropping bluetooth connection to smartwatches. Also was a pain to pair to any vehicle as well.

It is difficult to say… The difference is not so big, but my personal opinion that LibreELEC a little bit stable (at least to listen music by BT headphones). So, it would be interesting to get your feedback
It should be noted that there is no official FW upgrade neither from Purism or SparkLan…
