My Librem 11 arrived today!

But why does it take 16 days to slap a shipping label on the box and send the email notice? (No RAM or flash memory to configure.)

Looks quite nice actually, I was expecting it to be a bit more narrow than it looks from the picture, could you take a shot straight from above of the display with something filling the entire display (fullscreen)?

Why Ubuntu with Grub? why not SystemDB with Ubuntu?

A fair question but as no one from Purism is writing in this topic, you probably won’t get factual answers as to what fulfillment processes they follow.

Maybe they do final QC (boot up and run tests) before letting the box out the door?

They might still have to mess around with the plug for the charger i.e. depending on the type of plug used at the destination.

Even if all that only takes 1 hour, given enough orders, the total delay will add up. That will then depend on how many staff are dedicated to the process.

Here you go:

Good point (but I am skepical).

Also, good point, but multiple adapter plugs are included. The charger need no adapter for the US and I am in the US.

I am happy to assume this for now. But it is not this is the first time they have been overoptimistic and they really need to bake some reality into their published lead times.

Just use any interpreter language, so you don’t need to cross-build. Also you can copy the source files over and build it there if you want to compile software. It’s really not a big deal.

Otherwise… what do you mean with crimson?

Yes, that avoids the hassle.

Given the lack of context of the original question, who can say.

Librem 11 devices are shipping with the latest release of PureOS (code name crimson). However your typical Librem 5 device probably isn’t yet running crimson (still running byzantium). So that is some version skew that could cause additional aggravation if you tried to develop software on the Librem 11 where the software is ultimately targeted for the Librem 5. (I find it better to have the development computer behind the target computer in release version, if they don’t match.)

@lo0 thank you!

Looks amazing!

What makes you think that Purism will let you take over a Librem 5 order without also accepting delivery??? My guess: They won’t.

@lo0 can you write notes with the pen? instead of using the keyboard, can you use the pen to write out notes?

I want a linux tablet for school. i had a samsung tab e but it was basically a big phone and a pain to use. opening a .docx required another app and it was so annoying.

Absolutely you can! Check out Xournal++

@lo0 awesome! thank you! i dont like being boxed in. do you happen to know if we can dual boot other distros? also, about how long from ordering to shipping in your experience? (site says 10 days)

its pricey and i had to wait forever for the librem 5. im glad this is in stock now. would you say it’s good for multitasking or sluggish? i guess im just curious to know if its worth it and future proof insofar that i could at least get 5+ years out of it. im iffy because of the librem 5 situation and purism wont refund this. there arent a lot of linux tablet options though. maybe someone on here might buy it if it doesnt work out :grimacing:

i wonder how it compares to starlabs’ starlite tab

Yeah of course you can install other distros. This is a supported Linux device :). I don’t know how long shipping is. It took a bit longer than the 10 days estimated for me but I ordered on the first day.

I think someone did a comparison to the star tablet in one of these threads. I think it has a newer processor and more ram.

Have you or anyone tested that?

I mean basic hardware boot should be OK but you can always get into trouble with some of the more niche hardware components. If you have time, you could try a Ubuntu Live Boot for us.

i was interested in ubuntu… just in case. pureos is ok but I’ve used ubuntu longer

Thanks for sharing. I would be interested how much the tablet weighs with case/keyboard and pen and how the pure tablet weighs.

I think it’s pretty simple:
They were “basically ready” and didn’t want to hold back the announcement any longer.
But final adjustments (bugs/image/flashing/packaging…) “unexpectedly” (as always) took a few days longer. :man_shrugging:
